MR2 CONVERTABLE and
TRAILER BY LUTHER ALLEN - USA

The first thing to do is ask yourself " Do I have a lot
of extra time on my hands ". If you are a handy person you won't find this
project all that difficult, just time consuming. I was surfing the net one day
when I came across Bob
Freitas's beautiful MR2. I just had to have one! After a few months
of dreaming, I made "the cut". On a sunny Sunday afternoon I was
vacuuming out my MR2 and decided I could wait no longer. I went to the hardware
store and bought 4 extra fine sawzall blades. When I got back, I took the rear
plastic pillar covers out. Using a straight edge screwdriver I pushed the rear
window molding out from the inside, all the way around. This was easier than I
thought it would be. Next I took off all the trim around the side windows, this
requires an 8mm deep socket or nutdriver. There is about 5 nuts on each side. To
remove the windows I pushed a small screwdriver in around the seal. I had to
push it straight in and pull straight out in many places all the way around both
windows. The drivers side came out nice, I was not so lucky with the passenger side. I
nicked the glass with the screwdriver and it broke, what a mess. Now it was time
for "the point of no return". I began cutting at the bottom of the
right rear pillar. I started at the back of the pillar and cut forward. I broke 3
blades before finishing the right side. I started the left next, with only one
blade left. Needless to say, I was off to the hardware store again before long.
Driving down Main St. with no windows and half of my roof off (banging over
every bump). I bought 4 more blades. Back at home, I only broke one more before
the left pillar was cut free. Now for the t-bar. That is heavy metal, it cuts
slow. The roof was now free, total time of destruction was only about 2.5 hours.
The roof is not very heavy ( maybe 70lbs ) I was able to get it off the car and
set aside without any trouble by myself. ----- I hope to continue this later,
for now please E-mail me( allen@tiffy@fcgnetwork.net
