MR2 BODYKITS - M1
Back to Body Kits
The famed M1R2!!
OK, so you haven't heard of it. Many have.
This car started life as a 1986 Toyota MR2. Around 1990, it became an
SCCA SSA class race car. Around 1993, it retired from racing, became a
drivers school car and got a 4 point bolt in roll cage, with side intrusion
bars, 4 point harnesses and a BMW M1 style body kit.
The car has a stock Toyota engine (not the one that was raced), with unknown
miles, but a brand new water pump and timing belt.
Transmission is stock MR2 5 speed manual. Car was originally equipped with
AC, since removed (but included), and leather interior (still fitted). No
cruise control.
It has a BMW cassette radio with BMW hifi speakers in the doors.
Window switches were relocated from doors (due to roll cage interference) and
placed forward of centre console. BMW switches were used.
Momo steering wheel with BMW logo.
Tokiko shocks with lowered springs.
Dual Mikuni carburettors on HKS intake manifold. (carb on cylinders 1 and 2
is running lean, needs rebuild)
TRD headers, no cat (has cat replacement pipe, cat can be quickly installed
for emissions testing)
Mallory electronic ignition. Electric fuel pump
Body kit by JWP Auto Dynamics of Alhambra, CA (now out of business, I
believe)
Included with car are the following: This vehicle runs and drives ok, with a carb rebuild it would be better
(carbs are 10 years old, with approximately 10k miles travelled in that
time. Vehicle Condition: Problems?, of course it's got problems, otherwise I'd ask
$40K like the Lambo look alikes......
1. Synchro on second gear is crunchy. Try to rush a shift above 2K rpm
and it grinds. Take it easy, it's ok. This is the only problem with the
trans, 5th gear, a common problem on this model, is fine.
2. Front spoiler, lower edge is quite banged up from curbs, rough roads,
etc. Car sits fairly low. Spoiler is fibreglass and relatively easy
to repair.
3. Blotchy metallic silver paint job. Looks fine from a distance, but
there's one big blotch of metal flake on the drivers door that stands out.
Car really should be repainted.
4. Car was "touched" on left side by an errant driver in a parking lot.
Needs some repair to drivers door skin.
5. Slight miss at idle, cylinder #1 drops out, due to carb problem.
Carb rebuild kits are $50 each.
Not really a problem, so much as a deficiency. AC compressor (included)
has been removed, so AC doesn't work. Would need new receiver drier, plus
compressor reinstalled, for it to work.
